The intended audience for this inquiry will be teachers, especially student teachers and teachers new to the educational profession. I feel that the information from this investigation will provide educators with the impetus to reflect upon their own teaching practices in regards to relationship building in the classroom. I would like educators to feel empowered that the “little things”, as will be addressed later, can and do impact students’ lives and that the cultivation of relationships is not a fruitless endeavor. Furthermore, I would like to provide teachers with justified pedagogical support for active relationship building in the classroom. . I entered teaching without a deep understanding of relationships, and I would like to share what I have learned with other new teachers who may overlook relationships or not be aware of the extent of the ramifications of their interactions with students.

The general public and parents may also be interested in this project as they may not be aware of the role teachers play in their children’s’ lives. Often parents are informed when there is a negative relationship or negative perceived relationship in the classroom. I would like to introduce into the discourse the positive impact educators can have and the benefits a student can gain from having a relationship with their teacher.
